Somnox: Sleep better with the sleep robot! Fall asleep faster and get relaxed

How did you get the idea to Somnox, the sleep robot?
Tu Delft minor Robotics: “Build a robot”. No archetype, but we are building something soft… Relatives close to the team suffer from sleep deprivation and use sleep medication that has been proven to be addictive and harmful.

How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?
We were in the safe environment of the TU Delft as a student project, so the start was not very difficult. Most problems were technical problems. Later it was most difficult to create a good team and keep it together (which until now has proven very successful).

Who is your target audience?
Adults, especially females between 40 and 65.
Otherwise maybe early tech enthusiasts, and or high executives who live a stressful life.

What is the USP of your startup?
Fall asleep faster/get relaxed without medication and effort

Can you describe a typical workday for you?
Daily huddle including sleep report, phone calls, Kickstarter Check, Testsleepers meetup (online or offline), mail power hour, lunch, developing embedded systems, Marketing meetup and finally some beers

Where do you see yourself and your startup Somnox in five years?
Grown towards a company that has achieved at least 50% of its mission statement (100k sleepers in 2025 worldwide. Including a location in the USA and Asia.

What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?
1. Focus, focus, focus!
2. Validate (almost) everything with your customers
3. Build an A-team which you also can have fun with!
