QUOKKA Activity Boards the brightest education toys for kids of wood

How did you get the idea to QUOKKA Activity Boards?

We launched our company in 2017 with a strong idea that every child has a talent and we can help discover it with right educational toys.

I have a strong background in FMCG industry. My wife Teresa used to be a teacher. Back then in 2017 we didn’t like the early childhood developmental products. They were either of bad quality or too expensive or gave little educational value to kids. One day we came up with the idea that we can do better. We understood all the risks but the positive emotions inside were bigger than them.

We started with small and bought our first laser catting machine. It was a whole new world for us but day by day we learning to overcome new challenges. After hundreds of fails and tries we finally made highest quality classical wooden toys in a new design! We did everything right and that first successful puzzles gave us a strong felling that out toys will “adducate”!

How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?

It is always difficult to start something new. I our case we had to understand lots of technical nuances about different equipment, their possibilities of work, about wood, pains, glues, screws etc and all the stages of certification and production lines processes. You need to find the resources to learn fast and cope with all the troubles on a daily basis no matter what. What’s more important, you need to find the right people that will share your idea as passionately as you do. We are happy to have such people in our team. They do impossible things to provide kids with thebest educational wooden toys.

Who is your target audience?

We produce our toys for kids 1-6 years old! And we want them to choose Quokka over and over again for the design of out toys, their functionality, the new play that they can give.
We work for parents. And we know that quality is the first requirement for loving dads and moms.

Happiness while learning and smiles while playing – that’s all we strive for when creating our toys!

What is the USP of your startup?

It is a strong combination of brightest designs – highest quality – educational functionality.
Thanks to the direct printing on the wood we can create unbelievably detailed designs of out boards. We use American water based paints that have GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification. It is important that all our products pass edEN-71 and ASTM Laboratory tests for the Toy Safety. We did our best in creating QUOKKA Activity Boards and hope you will like them as well!

Can you describe a typical workday of you?

Usually I go to the production to check all the processes, to discuss the tasks for the day. After I return to the office to settle all the paper work. My wife is in charge for the new products. She likes to create and works in R&D team. I am in charge of the production side and finance.
Daily we do testings of new ideas, improve them, drink lots of tea and coffee and do all the rest work that business do. We are very open, there are no closed doors in the office. We can easily communicate anything that is important for one or another on that day.

Where do you see yourself and your startup in five years?

We want to see kids all around the world happy with our toys.
We truly believe that our Quokka toys for kids are more meaningful than a majority of toys in this category.

I really want our company to succeed. There people here that invest lots of time in this product and for whom this is a great place of work. I always think about the families that trusted their husbands, wives, songs, or daughters to come and join out team.  I want our company to make their professional and private dreams come true.

What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?

It a question that I need more days to think over deeply.
But if to say the very minute

  1. Be passionate no matter what till the end. Peruse your dream. Be patient and disciplined.
  2. Learn to accept the failures right.
  3. Be honest with all your deeds.
