Meet POPKALAB on long night of startups in Berlin
How did you get the idea to your startup?
POPKALAB is a continuation of my work as an artist. I had experience on developing interactive installations and i saw on wearable technology an opportunity to create new experiences focused on the body.
Why did you decide to start a business?
I noticed that there were many wearable tech companies focused on making the user’s life more efficient. However I would like to make people life’s more interesting instead. Based on this thought I decided to create POPKALAB and focus on projects that are fun and entertaining.
How does your company has developed since it was founded?
POPKALAB has worked in collaboration with several fashion brands and developed many prototypes. Mainly our work is for exhibitions or fashion shows. Now we would like to introduce some concepts to the market like our “sound steps” and the “cat cushion” that you can see at the “long night of startups”, get partners to develop interactive retail experiences and work in collaboration with advertisement agencies.
What was the biggest challenge in starting your business?
The biggest challenge was to explain potential clients what wearable technology can do for them. Normally they relate wearable technology with fitness trackers or devices like google glass. We believe that it can be much more than gadgets and now the companies are starting to understand that.
What is the USP of your Start-up?
We create and develop wearable tech products and services that are beautiful, simple and fun.
Who is the target audience?
We have 3 main target audiences: fashion brands, advertisement agencies and on the long run young consumers.
Why do you apply for the Long Night of startups in Berlin?
We applied for the long night of startups Berlin to show what we have been doing, to get to know other start ups and exchange experiences and hopefully to meet investors willing to support our ideas.
You are one of few startup companies of the Long Night of Startups. How motivating is it for you and what do you expect from the event?
It is very exciting. I really hope to get to know other people that work with innovation and find new collaborations and investors.
How important is this step for you? From the aspect that by many prospective clients and media attention to you?
Very important! Berlin is becoming a hub in wearable technology and for us is very important to be present in the core of this movement.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see POPKALAB as an stablished fashion tech creative studio working in europe and Latin America.
What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?
– believe in your idea;
– pay attention on the design and presentation;
– apply to events like Long night of Startups
