GeoBiz is a smartphone app which allows you to connect with business people on the move
Please introduce yourself and your startup GeoBiz to our readers!
My Name is Arfan Qureshi and I’m the Founder and CEO of GeoBiz App Ltd. GeoBiz App is a location based business networking app which allows travelling business people connect with each other while on the move, allowing them to source new supplier and new sales opportunities.
How did you get the idea to GeoBiz?
Well, the idea itself came from my own experience in being a business traveller. I was the head of global advertising for a large manufacturing magazine, and was constantly on the move travelling. Meeting clients at trade shows and visiting them at their facilities and I whenever I was there I would always notice more potential customers I could be dealing with. The problem was I just didn’t know they were there.
Whether that be someone attending a trade show or one of my clients competitors who were based not too far from them. Seeing as I was only really in these locations for a few days at a time, it was always difficult to get an appointment with them. There just had to be a better way of doing this, so that’s here the idea of GeoBiz App.
How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?
Being a non tech person the initial challenges were huge, where do I start what do I do? The first point to start to validate my idea was to some market research and to see if there is even a demand. Sure enough there certainly was.
The next step was to build my team, after meeting with lots of app developers who could all execute the idea, I really wanted someone who is as invested in the idea and its success as me. That’s when I met my CTO Mike Wilde, who is absolutely fantastic, we both come from different chains of thought which makes us work really well together. Slowly from there on out along came Ben my marketing director who is equally fantastic and Holly. Now the team is formed.
The other challenge I guess is understanding the world of tech and how things work, I must admit this is something that initially I did struggle with but you do have to trust your team to deliver the best possible product which I’m very proud to say that we do now have.
Who is your target audience?
Our target audience is European business travellers, they can be from any industry or any sector but the key people would be C.E.O, Sales People, Export Manager/ Director, country managers/Directors. Really it is anyone who travels for business who is looking for new opportunities to grow their business. They can be from any industry sector also.
What is the USP of your startup?
The USP is quite simply that we allow you to make new long term meaningful business connection that you would not already have dealt with. We allow you to do business like a local even though you may not be a local.
Can you describe a typical workday of you?
Yes typical working day would be to have a catch up with them and understand where they are and the challenges they face. Work with them to overcome those challenges, and currently a lot of time is taking by doing marketing channel partnerships with people and also pitching for investment. You have ups and downs every day and that’s why I love it.
Where do you see yourself and your startup GeoBiz in five years?
Well in five years we hope to have made some fantastic strides in the European market and I expect us to be used world wide. We aim to be the number 1 business networking app in the world.
What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?
1. Don’t loose faith, the only person that can really drive your business is you, although you may have times when things don’t seem to be going right. Just keep persevering.
2. Know your market and your industry, keep up to date with your industry and the latest goings on. This will allow you to always stay one step ahead of the competition.
3. Have fun, I’m a firm believer, that if you get up in the morning and you are not excited about what you are doing then you should do something else. There is a famous quote about enjoying the journey which I think applies here.
