£2k boost for start up female entrepreneurs

Must read

Crowdfunder has launched a crowdfunding competition for aspiring business women across the UK with a £2,000 pledge for the top 12 startup ideas.

This competition, running as part of the ‘Back her Business’ programme, is open until June 24th. Designed to address the fact that only one in three entrepreneurs in the UK are women, it aims to help women looking to get started in business. Knowing that start-up funding can be a barrier for female business owners, Crowdfunder are set to transform the steps it takes to launch a business.

Submissions are open to any woman looking to get their business off the ground. In order to enter, applicants must outline their new business idea in 200 words. Then with the help of competition partners Enterprise Nation, Crowdcube and Everywoman, alongside inspiring women who have previously crowdfunded their own businesses, 12 winners will be chosen.

Crowdfunder will also be promoting five specific themes at varying times during the call for entry period.

The themes – Food and Drink, Fashion, Wellness, Social Enterprise and Technology – cover a diverse range in order to encourage applications from all industries. There will be two winners chosen from each category as well as two additional winners who don’t fit into the boxes.

The 12 winning ideas will be invited to launch their ideas on Crowdfunder, they will campaign for support from the crowd and when successful, will unlock the £2,000 pledge from either NatWest, Royal Bank or Ulster (dependent on entrepreneurs location). Throughout the process the women will receive free coaching and mentoring from the team at Crowdfunder and networking opportunities to meet like-minded people.

On the Back Her Business campaign, Simon Walker from Crowdfunder stated: “We’re thrilled to be working with NatWest on such a vital long term campaign. Through this competition we want to able to give business opportunities to female entrepreneurs from all over the UK. We find so often that the crowdfunding phase of business is a barrier for lots of women and we want to break down that barrier and make it as easy as possible for them to get started. With the help of our sponsors it is amazing that we can offer this prize and support to so many women nationwide.”

Competition winners will be announced on the 26th of June. Entrants can apply here:
