Craft Bicycle a work of art, mixing know-how and urban elegance

Please introduce yourself and your Craft Bicycle to our readers
We are Sabin and Ion the founders behind this unique concept. Our mission is to build a bicycle with sustainable materials, that offers the best comfort and a design that will turn heads. We aim to change the way we think about riding a bike and want to offer not just a ride, but an experience.

How did you get the idea to Craft Bicycle?
The idea came to us a few years ago when we learned about this concept that was patented in England in 1894. In that book they talked about the use of bamboo as an alternative to steel and aluminium and pointed the unique properties of this material against others.

How difficult was the start and what challenges you had to overcome?
At the beginning was hard because we didn’t have the necessary knowledge and experience to build a bicycle from scratch. Our first step was to invest in research, trainings, programs and equipment to build performing bikes. We had to take it step by step therefore there were a lot of up and downs, a lot of raw material that we had to throw away. However, after dozens of tests and tens of trial and errors we were finally able to deliver what Craft Bicycle is today. A beautifully designed retro bike made out of bamboo using only high quality bike components.
For us, every day is full of opportunities because we try to innovate and improve in each and every step of the production process. If we would really have to choose top three challenges, we faced then we have to point the following:
– finding the best materials for the frame
– winning the trust of suppliers
– choosing the best components

Why did you start a crowdfunding on Indiegogo?
We are just starting our dream, and since we are two young engineers, our budget was quite tight and we couldn’t afford starting the mass production. Thus we turn our heads to one of the biggest crowdfunding community in the world, Indiegogo. We hope to get support from the active bakers which would like to get our products first. This way we would be able to reduce costs and ease the production process.
We offer great discounts for our first customers so check our campaign and order your unique bamboo bike now. Discover more here :

Who is your target audience?
We aim to bring our products to everyone who loves riding anexquisite bicycle with a retro design made out of sustainable materials, yet modern and equipped with top notch components. In the current Indiegogo campaign that we launched last week, we offer our products at special prices (discountsup to 52%) and ship them worldwide to all our bakers.

Why Bamboo?
Bamboo is an eco-friendly material that is use in a nearly unimaginable range of products and has several characteristics that make it the perfect material for building a bicycle:
– high strength-to- weight,
– vibration dampening,
– sustainable growth.
The Bamboo used for making the bicycle frameworks has a similar or even greater tensile strength than steel. This species of bamboo are used to to build bridges and multi-story scaffolding [1].

What is the USP of your startup?
Our bicycle stands out from the rest of the competition due to their unique design and top quality components. We invest nearly 80 man-hours in building each bike and pay attention to every detail. We care about your ride, so like a tailor, we take your measurements and build each frame to suit you, resulting in a unique piece of art which offers an unforgettable experience.

Can you describe a typical workday of you?
Each morning we try to start by pointing the current top priorities and making a quick action plan for that day. We strive to improve our production process, our business model every day thus we spend quite a lot of time researching for new methods to promote our project to the right people and ease the crafting methods of our bikes. In three words each day means: research, apply, re-iterate.

Where do you see yourself and your startup in five years?
It’s hard to predict because there are too many factors, but if we make the right steps and take the best decisions we will grow to become a wellknown brand which will compete with the best out there. Our goal is to build the most beautiful and sustenainablebicycle in the world.

What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?
1. Bepersistent. The results won’t be overnight but on a long term.
2. Strive for the best. Research, apply your knowledge and improve on it until you find the perfect combination.
3. Invest in yourself every day. Becoming better everyday will help not only your company, but also you as an individual.
